Portrait of Mark McIntyre, Gestalt Therapist

Mark McIntyre

Gestalt Therapist – In person (Brisbane) and online

About Me

I’m Mark McIntyre, a Gestalt therapist with a growing interest in Internal Family Systems (IFS). My approach is relational, grounded, and experiential. I offer therapy in a way that is warm, respectful, and collaborative.

Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a teacher, IT professional, small business owner, consultant, and parent. These roles have shaped how I sit with clients—practically, honestly, and with deep respect for the complexity of being human.

I hold a Master of Gestalt Therapy, a Diploma of Teaching, and a Certificate in Holistic Counselling. I’m registered with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia) as a Certified Practising Counsellor (Registration No. 31720). My training includes work with individuals, couples, and groups.

I identify as a cisgender man and warmly welcome clients of all gender identities and expressions. I also work with neurodivergent clients and aim to create a space free from assumptions, where you feel met as you are.

If you’re feeling nervous about beginning, that’s understandable. In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other, explore what’s brought you here, and co-create a plan for how we might work together—including session frequency, focus, and what support feels right for you.

What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt therapy is an experiential, humanistic approach that emphasises awareness, presence, and the therapeutic relationship. It encourages clients to explore their thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations in the here and now, recognising patterns and meaning as they arise in the present moment. Rather than analysing the past, we bring attention to how it lives in your current experience and interactions.

What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)?

IFS is a therapy model based on the idea that we are made up of different parts, each with its own perspective and role. Some parts protect us, others carry pain, and all are trying to help us in their own way. IFS helps create a compassionate inner relationship, guided by what’s called the Self—a calm, curious, confident presence that can listen and lead. IFS and Gestalt can work beautifully together in deepening awareness and fostering inner healing.

Sessions & Fees

Sessions are 50 minutes and can take place in person (The Gap or West End, Brisbane) or online. I work with clients worldwide, excluding the USA and Canada for insurance reasons.

I offer discounted packages to make therapy more accessible while honouring the value of the work. Individual sessions are $150. New clients receive 50% off their first two sessions. I also offer package discounts: 10% off when purchasing five sessions in advance, and 15% off when purchasing ten sessions in advance. A small number of low-cost five-session packages are available for people experiencing financial hardship, at $80 per session (maximum two client packages at any time). Please let me know if you would like to be waitlisted for one. Group, couple, and family sessions are by arrangement. Fees are reviewed in July each year. Payment can be made by cash (with an additional $10 discount), card, PayPal, or bank transfer.

If you’d like to explore working together, I’d be glad to hear from you.

Confidentiality & Boundaries

I treat everything you share in our sessions with the utmost care and respect. Our work together is confidential, with rare exceptions where I’m legally required to disclose information—such as if there’s an imminent risk of harm to you or others, or in cases involving child abuse. Where appropriate and possible, I will discuss any necessary disclosures with you beforehand.

Our therapeutic relationship is supported by clear boundaries. We’ll meet during scheduled sessions, communicate professionally, and I do not engage with clients on social media. These boundaries help create a safe, contained space where meaningful therapy can unfold.

I adhere to the ethical standards set out by the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). You can read more about these standards in the PACFA Code of Ethics.

If you have any questions about confidentiality or boundaries, I’m happy to discuss them during our initial consultation.
